At its August meeting, the Pacific
Beach Democratic Club voted to support Proposition 87 on the November ballot, a measure to fund
research into alternative energy sources with taxes on oil companies which
cannot be passed on to consumers.
"The oil companies will spend millions to fool the voters into thinking
this will increase gas prices," said Maritza Gates, Club President.
"In fact, the measure prohibits that. It's time to read the writing on the
wall and recognize that we're running out of oil, and we need to develop
alternative fuels. The oil companies have record profits to fund the needed
research."
At
its meeting of September 10, the Pacific Beach Democratic Club will vote on
ballot propositions 84 and 87 regarding water quality and a cigarette tax for
medical care, respectively.
