The Pacific Beach Democratic Club works to elect Democrats to local, state and national office.  Why?  Because the party that has successfully advocated environmental, consumer, health insurance, tax reforms and civil rights advances of the past 60 years is the Democratic Party.
By and large, Republicans are too reliant on big business to rein them in when necessary.  The GOP is still the party of the big corporations, those who deny global warming, those who want business to be able to make its profit even if it means despoiling our environment, hurting consumers, and protecting the rich. Democrats are more helpful to working, middle-class Americans.
Who wants to repeal the estate tax and make permanent the big tax breaks to multi-millionaires? Bush and the GOP!  These tax breaks resulted, in part, in concerting the budget surplus which President Clinton created through prudent management of federal spending into the largest budget deficit in history. Our government now owes hundreds of billions of dollars to foreign governments, like Japan and China.  The Democrats have become the party of fiscal discipline, the GOP the party of borrow and spend.
Which party is looking out for the “regular guy?”  Check out the campaign contributions on opensecrets.org to see which party big business prefers. (Hint – big oil companies gave 87% of their millions in campaign contributions to Republicans, and got repaid with support for oil drilling off our coast and in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge as well as hefty tax breaks.
For example, Brian Bilbray, the new congressman in the 50th district, received some $140,00 in direct contributions from oil companies (and still more in indirect contributions given through his party’s leadership), then he voted for offshore oil drilling (June 29, 2006, HR 4671) in violation of the wants of his coastal district.  In fact, the vote on the oil drilling by the San Diego members of Congress broke along party lines – Democrats Susan Davis and Bob Filner voted NO, while Republicans Bilbray, Duncan Hunter and Darrell Issa all voted yes.
Why did Bush try to privatize Social Security? Because the stock brokers and and insurance agents (campaign contributors) were chomping at the bit to start selling hidden-fee investments to the millions of gullible people would have to learn about annual operating expenses and asset allocation.

NO on Prop 90 - Pretends to be about limiting eminent domain, but goes overboard by allowing anyone to demand payments whenever any government affects then with regs on environmental, consumer, labor or land use restrictions.

How You Can Help
1. Join the Pacific Beach Democratic Club.
2. Come to one of our monthly meetings.
3. Help out in a campaign sometime. Money, walkers, phoners and letter to editor writers are always welcome.
Being a Democrat doesn’t mean that we think all Democratic candidates are perfect. But as a practical matter, in any race either the Republican or Democrat is going to win.  When we check out the candidates, we find that there’s a big difference between the candidates. It’s rarely “tweedle dee and tweedle dum.”
The Republicans don’t like voters to know how they’re “giving away the store” to their campaign contributors, so their ploy is to change the subject - they pick a “wedge issue” like crime, gay rights, guns, or immigration to fan the flames of voters. Anger, fear, hate – these are the three pillars of Republican campaigns.
The Democratic party remains the inclusive party of hope, of education, opportunity and progress.
So your vote does count (well, except sometimes in Florida and Ohio).
